One week ago

One week ago today two amazing things happened.  It has been a brilliant start to the spring and has left me feeling enthusiastic and energized again, after a fairly long winter.

Books and magic

So at last I am back 'on-line' which is wonderful.  I was missing access to the internet alldue to the fact that someone has moved away (without my knowledge) from next door and my laptop no longer was picking up his signal.

So What Are You Giving Up For Lent?

Ash Wednesday yesterday signalled the start of Lent for Christians and traditionally, therefore, a time  of fasting and abstinence for the six weeks until Easter Sunday.

I happily disregarded Lent for many years and would probably still continue to do so were it not for  Jake; I guess the schools and the teachers have a duty to  help our children practise their faith so these days, we have to consider what exactly we are going to give up.

Busy hands

'Busy hands make light work', this is true, but it is also an attitude of mind that you take to your task that helps.  Once you start something, albeit trivial in the extreme, if you give your full consciousness to it the task becomes so much easier.  (I am not really trying to sound like Mary Poppins here).

Younger Than I'll Ever Be Again

It was my birthday last week and I received some lovely cards and presents.

One card was from one of my sisters who has only recently started speaking to me again after a couple of years of silence.  A painful situation because she was annoyed about something outside of my direct control and I felt hurt that she chose to blame me for it.  Fortunately though, events have moved on and she sent me a good card:  "How old?  Never mind, you may be older than you've ever been before..." and inside,

O Lord, Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood

I've had a couple of days where communication with other people has only led to painful mis-understandings.

For the life of me, as I look back over how these came to pass, I cannot see how or why they did. They just did.   I am accepting them as a fact of life and doing my best to renew my vows to communicate as cleanly and as efficiently as I can.

Treats

On Saturday night I treated myself to a glass of wine, a hot bath and an early night.  "Oh how boring" I hear you say, "why don't you go out on the town, its Saturday after all?".  But you see, for me it is a treat not to go out.

I need an excuse to visit Dubai as well as it is now on my shortlist for somewhere to live and work in the sun, although I believe that the sun is rather fierce for quite a large part of the year.

Wellbeing Dubai - definitely one for those who can be in Dubai for the first weekend of February.   Who knows, by next year's show I could be living there, overlooking the marina, in a tax-free haven. Stranger things have happened.
