I managed to drag myself back to my exercise class yesterday. I missed the first week of term, after the whole summer holidays off, jumping up and down just wouldn't fit into my plans last week.
However, yesterday seemed altogether a better proposition in every way somehow and so I made the effort and got myself to my linedancing class in Deptford. I love it when I get there, I really dont know why I procrastinate!
I do it with a lot of OAP's and there are apparently many sorts of benefits to linedancing for the senior citizen. I see them using it to get out of the house, meet people, keep moving, stave off Alzheimers (by remembering the patterns of the dances even if we cant remember the name of them), and I notice most of them are keeping very trim by doing it.
I notice also that they are a wonderful bunch of (mainly) women who are "up" for anything, so they have fun and a joie de vivre. One of my pals took up swimming and - God love her - abseiling in her 70s!
It was a very hot day yesterday and your body tells you when you haven't been doing enough jumping up and down type exercise pretty quickly, which is why I often dread the beginning of term. But I notice how forgiving my body is, how quickly it responds, how great it feels and what a thoroughly wonderful thing being energetic and using your body physically truly is. Imagine you couldn't?
And now, for a last laugh - see me on the WeightWatchers website talking about the calorie burning experience of line-dancing. I was interviewed by my pal Paula Gardner for a feature she was doing about line-dancing for WeightWatchers and here I am quoted, in all my glory. Ironic really. I only had one experience of WW once, a very long time ago, and HATED it (!) but it has done wonders for my best pal. I hope the article encouraged other WW-ers to take up my favourite exercise hobby.
What's your point, Judith?
Well, its about finding an exercise activity you can love too, so you dont have to force yourself to do it.
Trampolining anyone?
If you've got a story to tell about your favourite exercise, which you think might encourage other slackers to get off the couch and take part, will you share it with us please? judith@threewisewomen.net
